Exploring Utah’s Mighty Five: (Minus One) A Road Trip Through Red Rock Country

This year, I decided to switch things up and trade my cruise ship deck for desert highways. My mission? To road trip through Utah’s stunning national parks—starting in Moab and winding my way through Capitol Reef, the Grand Staircase in Escalante, Bryce Canyon, and finally, Zion.

Just my luck, the government shutdown hit right as I set out—but somehow, the national parks were still open. With my lifetime park pass tucked safely in my bag (and no one at the gates to check it), the journey began!

I had dreams of completing Utah’s famous “Mighty Five”, but I wasn’t sure I’d have time to tackle Canyonlands—it’s massive and deserves a trip of its own. So, I started where every great Utah adventure begins: Moab.

After a quick one-hour flight to Las Vegas, I rented a car and set out on a six-hour drive into the heart of red rock country. The road unfolded like a painting—towering cliffs, desert sunsets, and miles of wide-open beauty.

We rolled into Moab late at night and checked into a cozy hotel just one block from Main Street. Moab instantly won me over with its small-town charm, amazing restaurants, and even a food truck park that smelled like heaven after a long day on the road.

Had breakfast the next morning at  Moab Garage Company on Main Street. We went to the Parlour in back to eat and it filled up pretty quick. Very popular with all the locals and great food!

With adventure calling, we got a good night’s sleep and prepared for our first big stop: Arches National Park. Tomorrow would be all about iconic stone arches, sweeping views, and that magical Utah light that makes every photo look like a postcard.

The journey had just begun—and I could already tell this road trip was going to be unforgettable. 🚗🌄
