Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, St. Petersburg, Russia. The Church of the Resurrection, also known as the Savior on Spilled Blood, was built in memory of Alexander II who was assassinated in 1881. The church stands in the very place where a bomb was thrown into his carriage by a young man who opposed the Tsar's reforms.

Catherine's Palace

The Catherine Palace is named after Catherine I, the wife of Peter the Great, who ruled Russia for two years after her husband's death. Originally a modest two-storey building commissioned by Peter for Catherine in 1717, the Catherine Palace owes its awesome grandeur to their daughter, Empress Elizabeth, who chose Tsarskoe Selo as her chief summer residence.

Catherine's Palace

Catherine Palace we get the quick entry through the back again bypassing all lines. We have to put on brown booties over our shoes to protect the floors. This is a large blue palace with gold domes sitting on 1400 acres of gardens and parklands. The only place we are not allowed to take pictures is the "Amber Room" . After walking through the parklands we get back to our private van.

Hermitage Museum

And then there's the Hermitage Museum. What can I say..... it is amazing. We went on a day it was closed so there was limited groups in there. Everywhere you turned it was awe inspiring.
The State Hermitage  is a museum of art and culture in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The second-largest art museum in the world, it was founded in 1764 when Empress Catherine the Great acquired an impressive collection of paintings from the Berlin merchant Johann Ernst Gotzkowsky. The museum celebrates the anniversary of its founding each year on 7 December, Saint Catherine's Day.
